Devonport landmark lit up for International Nurses Day

The HMS Drake clock tower was bathed in blue on Tuesday night

The HMS Drake clock tower at the Devonport Naval Base has been lit up in blue, to commemorate International Nurses Day yesterday (12 May).

It also marked 200 years since the birth of Florence Nightingale and Nurses’ Day is celebrated around the world annually on 12 May.

The World Health Organisation declared 2020 as International Year of the Nurse & Midwife, not knowing at the time, the challenges they would face in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

The Royal Navy encouraged people to take a moment of reflection yesterday and has thanked their colleagues in the Royal Navy Medical Service.
