New analysis released today shows how our city's universities contribute to the local economy

Plymouth's universities support 5,630 jobs in the city and add £320 million to the local economy, says a new analysis released today (31 July).

It has found that University of Plymouth, the University of St Mark and St John, and Plymouth College of Art, contribute massively to the city through their supply chains and the expenditure of staff and students.

Between them, they directly employ 3,020 people and support another 2,610 jobs across Plymouth.

The analysis comes from Hatch Regeneris for the University and College Union (UCU).

Plymouth is one of 25 cities analysed as part of the work looking at the local economic contribution of universities.

Between them, the three institutions bolstered the local economy to the tune of £320 million last year through gross value added.
