Councillor Mavin has officially taken over from Councillor Ball as Plymouth's Lord Mayor for 20/21
Councillor Chris Mavin has officially become the Lord Mayor of Plymouth.
He was sworn in at the council's first ever online Annual General Meeting today. This is the biggest event in their democratic calendar.
Lord Mayors Day was supposed to take place tomorrow, but had to be cancelled due to coronavirus.
Councillor Mavin takes on the role after Councillor Richard Ball and Councillor Darren Winter has taken over as Deputy Lord Mayor after Councillor Terri Beer.
First elected to the city council in 1987, Councillor Mavin has previously represented the Sutton and Budshead Wards and is currently the councillor for Moor View Ward.
In total he has served the city for 23 years and was made an Honorary Alderman of the City of Plymouth in September 2014 and was Deputy Lord Mayor in 2018/19.
I’m so pleased that my pal Chris Mavin will become Lord Mayor of Plymouth at the @PlymouthCC AGM today. He will be a brilliant First Citizen - such a proud Plymothian. He and @sue_dann will enjoy it. Thanks to outgoing LM Cllr Ball for a good job under difficult circumstances.— Tudor Evans (@CouncillorTudor) May 22, 2020
