Nine litterers in Plymouth punished by the courts

They all must pay £688 after appearing before Plymouth Magistrates Court

Nine litterers must pay nearly £700 each after appearing before Plymouth Magistrates.

The court heard how they were all given fixed penalty notices after being witnessed dropping rubbish on the city's streets.

After not paying it even after several reminders, their costs have more than tripled.

The court found the defendants guilty in their absence and ordered them each to pay a fine of £440, legal costs of £200 and a victim surcharge of £44.

Another defendant submitted a guilty plea by post and was fined £100, ordered to pay £200 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

They will now all carry a criminal record.
