My radio career kicked off with Hospital Radio Plymouth in 2008. It was during my Communication and Media degree at Bournemouth University that I realised I wanted to be a broadcast journalist. So, I got into volunteering for hospital radio to get some experience and loved every moment of the year I spent there. I presented a weekly news programme as well as getting the opportunity to report live on events within the city such as the Plymouth Half Marathon – what a buzz!
The next step was to get a paid job in the industry. It was clear that I’d need more knowledge and more experience in broadcast journalism so I applied to do a Masters course in Falmouth. About half way through my studies, I started covering weekend shifts for Radio Plymouth and instantly knew this was the job I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I’ve also done freelance work for Exeter FM, Palm FM and BBC Radio but when this full time job came up at Radio Plymouth, it was too good an opportunity to miss.
I was born in Plymouth and have lived here for most of my life, with the exception of the four years I spent away at university. I enjoy meeting and speaking with new people and finding out about the issues that matter to them – something I believe is important when working in news.
Outside of the workplace, I’m a typical girly girl – a shopaholic, a chocoholic and well I like a drink every now and then. I love music, fashion, dancing, aerobics and spending time with my friends and family.
