Westcountry woman continues campaign for specialist radiotherapy machine at Derriford

A westcountry woman has collected 200 signatures on a petition to try and persuade Derriford Hospital to bring forward the purchase of a new radiotherapy machine.

The Plymouth Hospital NHS Trust still plans to buy a cyberknife, but has said it will have to do so over two years from 2012 instead due to budgetary constraints.

The machine costs more than two million pounds.

Ruth Peberdy has set up a charity in her husband Ron's name after he died of pancreatic cancer in 2005 - she says if everyone gave a pound in the region, they would be able to afford it.
