Waterfront Partnership say BID will boost city's economy

The team behind plans for a business improvement district for Plymouth's waterfront wants to increase the amount visitors spend in the city by 25% by 2020.

The official business plan was launched yesterday and firms will start voting on whether they are willing to pay an additional levy next week.

Amongst the proposals are plans for tourists to be spending more than two hundred and fifty million pounds a year in the city by 2020.

Some businesses don't want it and argue it's an extra tax that won't bring any real benefits.

Carla Williams is an observor on the board of the Waterfront Partnership and runs the Edgecombe guesthouse - she says Plymouth isn't currently being marketed and believes the BID will boost tourism because more people will know about the city.
