Unexploded device found on Barbican

A large part of Plymouth city centre has been closed off this evening after an unexploded device was discovered near the barbican.

A construction worker discovered the device on the site of the old NAAFI building in Notte Street.

A 150 to 200 metre cordon has been put in place around much of the area.

It's believed to be a similar device to the one found on the site back in November.

The streets currently closed include Hoe Street, Notte Street, Princess Street, Lockyer Street and Zion Street.

The Holiday Inn and some nearby properties have been evacuated.

Around forty people are currently sheltering at the Plymouth pavilions, which has been turned into a rest centre again.
