Two Plymothians flown to Derriford hospital after polar bear attack

Two Plymothians caught up in the polar bear attack in Norway are being treated at Derriford hospital.

29 year old Michael Reid shot the bear after it mauled 17 year old Horatio Chapple to death in their tent on Friday.

Mr Reid was flown back to Plymouth today.

Meanwhile 17 year old Scott bennell smith is being treated for a fractured jaw after he was also caught up in the attack - he is a sixth former at Devonport High school for Boys.

Plymouth polar explorer Antony Jinman has led expeditions for the British Schools Exploring society and says this type of attack is quite rare.
