Tributes paid to Plymouth marine killed in Afghanistan

The death of a Plymouth-based royal marine will leave a 'massive void' in the lives of all who knew him.

That's one of many tributes paid to marine James Robert Wright of 42 commando, who was killed on Friday in Afghanistan.

Marine Wright was on patrol in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province when his check point came under attack.

He was hit by a grenade and was taken to hospital, where he died from his wounds.

He leaves behind a close family, his long term partner Shelley and their unborn baby.

The 22 year old's family say he touched the lives of everyone who knew him and that he was looking forward to becoming a father.

Commanding officer of 42 Commando, Lieutenant Colonel Ewan Murchison, has said Marine Wright always demonstrated considerable courage, inner strength and physical robustness.

He added that Marine Wright's death would leave a 'massive void in the lives of all those who knew him'.
