TJ Hughes closure is another 'blow' to Plymouth, say traders

Traders in the west end of Plymouth say the closure of TJ Hughes this weekend will be a blow to the city centre.

The store ceases trading on Sunday and the 57 staff will be officially made redundant on Tuesday. It's after the company went into administration.

The Plymouth market traders' association say they're worried that Plymouth is being left behind - many had hoped that John Lewis might take over the Derrys building, but they are instead opening a store in Exeter.

The Derrys building on Royal Parade and the Woolworths building are both still empty and many believe this latest closure will have an impact on trade in the west end of the city.
