Thousands of Plymouth public sector workers could strike

Plymouth's trade unions say they believe the public will support them if they strike at the end of November.

Unite and Unison announced at the TUC conference that they will ballot members on strike action - the Plymouth TUC has cited November 30th as a possible date.

It means teachers, health workers and council workers could all walk out over the government's pension reforms - they say they will see them paying more for less money at the end of their careers.

More than a third of Plymothians work in the public sector.

The government says the previous Labour administration created the current financial crisis by raising the level of debt.

However, Labour say the government's policies on cutting the deficit are irresponsible.
