Ten million pounds worth of cuts approved by city council

Plymouth city councillors say they've worked hard to minimise the impact that 10 million pounds worth of cuts will have on the city.

The budget for the next financial year was finalised by councillors last night.

Back office departments will see the biggest cuts, of more than 7 million pounds - but councillors say much of that will be achieved through being more efficient when buying in services.

Spending on community services will be cut by around 2 million pounds and childrens services by around six hundred thousand.

The council says there's also a "shortfall" of about 150-thousand pounds for domestic abuse services in the city.

They say they're looking into ways that the health service and the police may help to fund these services.
