Teachers and public sector workers prepare to strike

A retired Plymouth teacher will join a rally tomorrow as thousand of teachers and public sector workers prepare to strike.

55 Plymouth schools will be either partially or completely closed.

They are walking out over pensions - the government wants people to make greater contributions and for pensions to be based on average rather than final salary in future.

Stephanie Steer has recently retired from the child development centre in Plymouth, which works with pre school children with special needs.

She says the perception that teachers are well paid and have excessively long holidays is simply wrong because they have to work through the school holidays too.
