A Plymouth based submarine should now be ready to deploy in the autumn after a major refit.

Two hundred relatives and friends of the crew of HMS Trenchant will celebrate its return to the fleet today.

Some of the crew have been involved in the upgrade, while others have been undergoing extensive training.

After a ceremony at Devonport naval base there will be a barbeque for families at Keyham playing fields.

During the eighteen month refit, her Tomahawk missiles have been upgraded, along with her sonar and navigation systems - Tomahawks have been used recently in the fight against Colonel Gaddafi in Libya.

She will now take part in sea trials and a period of preparation before deploying again in the autumn.
