Special Operations Canine joins Fire and Rescue Service

The Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service is now able to make use of a special urban search dog who can sniff out 'live scents' during rescue operations.

Special Operations Canine, Mickey, has been funded by the Government and can be released into environments where it's hard for fire fighters to reach casualties.

He's available to attend incidents nationally as well as locally, such as collapsed buildings, transport incidents and rock falls.

Mickey was recently tasked with searching a large pile of rubble after fire fighters failed to find anything within about 45 minutes. He took just 90 seconds to detect a live human scent.
