South West's rail network up for discussion in Parliament

MPs will debate the future of the South West's rail network today.

A public consultation on the new Great Western franchise begins in the New Year, although there are concerns that the length of contract could be reduced from ten to six years.

It's hoped First Great Western will still apply for the new contract.

There are concerns that if the contracts are shorter, it may put companies off as they won't be able to achieve as much in the time.

MPs will also push for reassurances that there are no threats to the sleeper train service to London.
