Retailer administration not all 'doom and gloom' for Plymouth

It's claimed it's not all bad news for Plymouth city centre, despite the recent spate of high profile retailers going into administration.

Plymouth's Jane Norman store was one of the best performing and was therefore sold to the Edinburgh woolen milll yesterday, after the company went into administration - this means it will continue trading.

It's not yet known whether the city's Thorntons or TJ Hughes store will be affected by their financial problems.

City centre manager Clint Jones wants local people to get more creative about ways to fill vacant shops - this could include community groups using them or even installing pop up galleries.

However, he says at just under nine percent, Plymouth's vacancy rate isn't actually that bad as it's still lower than the regional average.
