Respects paid to Plymouth Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan

Hundreds of mourners are expected to pay their respects today to a Plymouth Royal Marine killed in Afghanistan.

Sergeant Barry Weston was serving with 42 commando when he was killed by an improvised explosive device while leading a patrol in Helmand Province at the end of August.

The 40 year old had just become a father for the third time and leaves behind wife Joanne and their daughters Jasmine, Poppy and Rose.

He will be given a full military funeral at St Andrew's Church with official standard bearers and a firing party from 42 commando.

Hundreds are expected to attend his funeral, which starts at 1 o clock this afternoon.

Meanwhile the body of another Plymouth based marine killed in Afghanistan will be flown home later.

Marine David Fairbrother was shot when his patrol was ambushed in Helmand Province on Monday.

The 24 year old will be flown back to RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire.

42 Commando has now lost seven marines on this deployment.
