Respects paid to Plymouth marines killed in Afghanistan

The funeral of a Plymouth-based marine killed in Afghanistan will take place today.

Nigel Dean Mead, known as Dean, was killed by an improvised explosive device when searching a compound in Helmand Province two and a half weeks ago.

Today, Marine Mead's family and friends will attend a church service in Carmarthen, where the nineteen year old grew up.

His family have paid tribute to him, his mum describing him as 'one in a hundred million'.

Meanwhile, the bodies of two more Plymouth-based marines are being repatriated today.

Sam Alexander and Ollie Augustin from 42 Commando were killed in an explosion in Helmand Province on Friday.

A private service will be held at RAF Lyneham, in Wiltshire, before the cortege passes through Wooton Bassett.
