Replica of 15th century ship at heart of pirate weekend

A replica of the fifteenth century ship the Matthew will be at the heart of a pirate themed weekend on the Barbican.

The Matthew is a remake of the ship which took John Cabot to America - he was looking for Asia but instead discovered Newfoundalnd.

This weekend people will be able to go on board and there'll also be fancy dress competitions, re enactments and story telling.

The Matthew will then sail on to London to join the Queen's Diamond Jubilee pageant.

Captain Rob Salvidge says it'll be a great honour to mark the Queen's 60 years on the throne. He says the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh have been on board the Matthew before too.
