Rail links need rethink, says local MP

Plymouth's rail network needs a radical rethink, according to a local MP.

This week Plymouth was left out of plans to introduce 48 new rail carriages on First Great western services - two are to be used in the Truro and Falmouth area and in Torbay, while the rest will go to other parts of the country.

Plymouth Moorview MP Alison Seabeck has been campaigning for more three hour services to London and says two extra carriages probably wouldn't have made that much difference.

Regional MPs met to discuss the issue this week and Ms Seabeck believes there needs to be a change of focus because if Plymouth has better rail links, there would be benefits for the whole region.
