Prosecution oulines case as Plymouth taxi driver accused of causing death of pensioner by dangerous driving

Witnesses have given Plymouth crown court their version of events of the day a local pensioner died after being involved in a collision with a taxi.

44 year old Andrew Bates is accused of causing the death of 76 year old Gordon Hollister through dangerous driving as he tried to cross the road at Woolwell Roundabout on December 13th last year.

The prosecution have been outlining their case - the court heard from a cement truck driver who was apparently overtaken by the taxi driver just before the accident.

He said he couldn't remember if the light was red, but that he was slowing down for the lights.

Another witness said the lights were red when the accident happened.

The prosecution alleges that Bates was trying to beat the traffic lights when he overtook the truck.

Bates denies the charges and the trial continues.

That report was filed by the Herald's Edd Moore.
