Proposed university technical college could move step closer

The creation of a university technical college in Plymouth could move a step closer today.

The city council must decide if it wants to become a co sponsor of the college, which would be built on the old Parkside site at Devonport.

Forty per cent of the curriculum would be vocational and may well be overseen by marine companies like Babcock and Princess Yachts.

The school would be sponsored by the university and City College Plymouth, but if the city council becomes a co sponsor, it doesn't mean they are financially liable, but they can offer advice.

Gareth Simmons from Plymouth City Council's children's services says it's a great opportunity for local businesses to work more closely with city students.
