Proposals for Plymouth solar farm 'at risk'

A Devon solar energy company is calling on the government to rethink its review of funding for some larger projects.

Low Carbon Solar wants to build a solar farm at Ernesettle - the idea is that local people buy shares in the company, which generates electricity at a discounted rate for a thousand homes.

But it relies on government help and the energy secretary has said they need to make ten per cent savings following the spending review.

The group would give any profits back to a parish trust - Mark Shorrock from Low carbon solar says the review could be a disaster because reducing the tariffs may make it impossible to go ahead with the first stage of the project.

The Department for Energy and Climate Change has said in a statement that the funding was really meant for individual homes and small businesses and that an increasing number of large scale solar farms could push their costs off track.
