Policy on sex establishments had to be changed, say council

A new policy on licensing sexual entertainment venues in Plymouth had to be brought in, according to a city councillor.

Yesterday, the cabinet approved a new policy which will see lap dancing clubs licensed in the same way as sex shops - the local authority says previously they had little control over how many lapdancing clubs could open in any one area.

Some locals had said that it wasn't an important issue to be discussing in light of current cutbacks.

However, councillor Mike Leaves says the government required them to sign off a new policy and that each application to the council will be considered on its own merit.
