Police warning to secure homes after burglaries

There were around 80 fewer burglaries to houses in Plymouth between April and July, compared to last year.

But now that temperatures are warmer, police are warning locals not to become careless by leaving windows and doors unlocked.

In the last few days, officers have been called to deal with a number of burglaries where the offenders have got in through a window left open or door left unlocked.

Detective superintendent Keith Perkin says officers are working hard to reduce the number of break-ins in Plymouth - they send patrols to areas that experience and increase in burglaries as well as plain clothes officers. He says in recent weeks, they have arrested a number of people they believe are responsible for a number of recent burglaries.
