Police highlight dangers of cyberstalking

A campaign's been launched in Devon and Cornwall to highlight the dangers of cyberstalking.

The police force hope their 'What do you know about me?' campaign will encourage people to protect their identity online and report any incidents of the crime.

Over 1.2 million women and 900,000 men are stalked every year but there aren't yet any official figures for cyberstalking.

Officers say the crime is under-reported because people often don't realise they're being stalked until it escalates into a more serious crime.

Steve Slater's the high tech crime manager for Devon and Cornwall police - he says people can reduce the risk of becoming a victim by being more careful about what they post on social networking sites. He says 'checking-in' on sites like Facebook tells people you're not at home and even photographs can give away clues about your life and habits.
