Plymouth unions vote on impact of cuts

Plymouth delegates will be amongst those voting on the impact of government cut backs on the economy today.

The GMB union annual congress continues until Thursday in Brighton.

Proposed cuts in the number of posts at the city council, Derriford hospital and the reduction in officers at Devon and Cornwall police are also up for discussion.

Kevin Norman is the GMB's regional representative for the south west - he says the cuts are too far, too fast.

Meanwhile, the business secretary Vince Cable is going to warn unions that mass strikes will lead to tougher laws on industrial action.

He'll address the GMB union today, with hundreds of thousands of workers planning protests at the end of the month.
