Plymouth's city centre manager to address government on success of Business Improvement District

Plymouth's city centre manager Clint Jones will be in London next week to tell the government about the business improvement district here.

The city centre became a BID in 2005, which means local firms pay a levy for a greater say on how the area is run.

The city centre company has applied for funding through the new project being led by retail guru Mary Portas to reshape town centres.

It appears the government is now considering the introduction of so called 'superbids,' which are larger and mean more control is taken away from local authorities and given to businesses.
