Plymouth residents encouraged to visit local libraries

This week a new scheme was launched at libraries in Efford, Southway and Devonport to help over 50s find work .

It's all part of a drive to encourage people to see libraries as community spaces for meetings, events, and reading.

Plympton's new library opens next month and the City Council says it has no intention to close any libraries this financial year.

The old library was destroyed by fire in 2008 and a temporary one has been operating from the Ridgeway ever since.

In other parts of Devon, library opening hours have been reduced, but so far, there have been very few library cutbacks in Plymouth.
