Plymouth medics prepare for Afghanistan

A Plymouth nurse about to deploy to Afghanistan says understanding the country's culture is incredibly important.

In addition to more than a thousand marines heading to Afghanistan on a six month tour over the next few weeks, there are also a number of navy medics and TA nurses.

243 field hospital has been busy training for their deployment.

Major Rose Chapman works part time at Derriford hospital as a nurse in her civilian job - she went to Afghanistan in 2008 and says she learnt a lot about their culture, particularly when caring for Afghan children.

The deployment will culminate in a remembrance parade on November 11th in Plymouth.
