Plymouth marines take over in part of Helmand province

Plymouth based 42 commando have officially taken over control of part of Helmand province in Afghanistan.

They will work alongside the Afghan national army in the Nad-e-ali district until October to improve security.

A ceremony has taken place over the last few days so that 3rd batallion the parachute regiment could officially hand over.

Around 1200 Plymouth personnel are currently in Afghanistan - it's the biggest South west deployment since operations began there in 2001.
