The Plymouth man who shot the polar bear which mauled a student to death in Norway has been discharged from hospital.

29 year old Michael or Spike Reid  has now undergone three operations at Derriford hospital to repair his fractured jaw and skull.

He has now been sent home, but his family say his wounds will take some time to heal.

In his own statement, Spike pays tribute to 17 year old Horatio Chapple, who was mauled to death - he says he was a very impressive young man and that his thoughts are with his family.

He also offers his thanks to the other young people on the trip who gave him first aid at the scene.
