Plymouth headteacher meets School minister's department

The nature of primary school education in Plymouth is the subject of top level talks in London later today.

George Muirhead, Chair of the Plymouth Association of Primary School Headteachers is meeting the schools' minister's dpartment.

Despite threatened industrial action by members of the National Union of Teachers at the end of June, Mr Muirhead wants to raise other issues - schools inspections, finance and the curriculum.

The government has suggested that the curriculum should have a grreater emphasis on knowledge.

Some teachers have argued this could deprive some pupils of vital skills and lead to an education based on learning facts.

However it's believed a proposed new national funding formula could actually benefit Plymouth schools in future.
