Plymouth councillors to give views on Sherford in coming months

The new town of Sherford could get the final green light over the next couple of months.

In December, South Hams District council approved the plans for 5500 new homes, new schools and alterations to the deep lane junction on the A38.

Plymouth city council must also give it the green light though and will discuss the issue in February or March.

Brixton Parish council has sought legal advice on whether it can challenge the planning permission.

Some South Hams district councillors also voted against the plans, saying there will not be enough affordable housing.

In the past South Hams district council has said there is a real need for more housing in the area and that the new town will provide this.

Plymouth city council acknowledged last year that one of the reasons for the nineteen million pound east end roadworks project was to create the infrastructure for Sherford.
