Plymouth Airport to close

Staff at Plymouth Airport have been left reeling after they were told it will close in December.

Sutton harbour holdings owns the airport leasehold, while the land is owned by the city council.

The group says losses over the next twelve months could total a million pounds and that there is no realistic prospect of trade improving.

The chamber of commerce is hoping they may be able to work with private firms to provide charter flights or that some form of service can be maintained.

56 people work at the airport.
