Plymouth academic to address UN conference

A Plymouth academic has been invited to address a United Nations conference looking at the future of the world's oceans.

Professor Martin Attrill will travel to New York at the end of this month, where he'll give a presentation and be part of a panel looking at the environmental impact of marine renewable energy.

He's the director of Plymouth University's marine institute, which has been conducting  research into this issue for some time.

Professor Attrill's presentation will focus on the importance of striking a balance between the benefits of technology like offshore wind farms and wave power - and the potential threats they may pose to wildlife.

He says windfarms in some parts of Europe have actually been shown to attract fish and other marine wildlife.
