Pay cut for police is 'attacking remaining officers'

Devon and Cornwall's police federation has described the police force as a 'thin blue line that's getting thinner'.

It follows home secretary Theresa May's announcement yesterday that officers should expect a pay cut - to prevent more job losses.

Under the plans, there'll be a pay freeze for two years, a reduction in overtime payments and more fluid shift systems.

Devon and Cornwall's police force has already announced that it'll be cutting 1200 jobs as part of its plans to save £50m over the next four years.

Nigel Rabbits, Chairman of Devon and Cornwall's police federation, says we've already got job losses in the area and compulsory retirements so cutting people's pay who are left in the service isn't going to help.
