One hundred homes could be built at airport site

Plans to build one hundred new homes at Plymouth airport go before city planners today.

Developers Cavanna Homes are already building 72 dwellings on the runway approach land known as Cobham field.

But now, they want to put one hundred more on the south western side of the airport - on the decommissioned runway.

The airport's due to close at the end of this year, and a new link road is due to be built at Derriford to accommodate even more homes in the area in future.

Cavanna homes say the link road between Tavistock Road and Plymbridge Lane should still be complete by December as far as they know.

Proposals for a 10 million pound rehabilitation centre at Devonport dockyard are also due to be considered by city planners.

The plans are for a second building, which would contain a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool and purpose-built gym - to aid the recovery of injured service personnel.

Plans for a 10 million pound accommodation block for soldiers using the facility, has already been approved.
