Olympic torch will be carried and not driven over Tamar Bridge

The Olympic flame will now be carried across the Tamar Bridge on Saturday by a torchbearer.

The city council and many locals had expressed their concerns that the flame was being driven across in a van, so spectators wouldn't be able to see it.

At a briefing today, LOCOG managers said they had changed their mind.

There had been concerns about having to close part of the Bridge.

The torch should cross the Bridge at around 7.25pm on Saturday before making its way to HMS Drake.

It will then travel through Devonport and Keyham to the city centre and Hoe.

A two hour show starts on the Hoe at 7pm and the torch should arrive there just before ten to nine in the evening.

The flame will stay overnight in Plymouth before departing from the Life Centre at around ten to eight on Sunday morning.

It will travel down Alma Road and out of the city via Laira Bridge to parts of the South Hams like Brixton and Yealmpton - it then moves on to Exeter.
