No immediate plans to pull down Pavilions, say council

City planners say they're glad that the English cities fund still want to build 1200 new homes at Millbay.

The group has had its planning permission renewed for three years to create 1200 new homes in Millbay and to demolish the Pavilions pool and ice rink - the arena will be redeveloped to create a new 2500 seater venue.

However the local authority says this is just a renewal of existing planning permission and that there will be no immediate impact on the Pavilions.

They are still looking for a buyer for the building.

At yesterday's meeting, proposals for 350 new homes at Derriford were rejected on the grounds that it would cause too much congestion at Derriford roundabout.

But chef Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall was given permission to kit out his new restaurant at the Brewhouse at Royal William Yard - it's due to open in the autumn.
