Parents in Devon and Cornwall will be able to check up on the background of people in contact with their children from tomorrow.

Officers say information will not be given out lightly - during a pilot scheme, out of 315 applications, 75 resulted in some form of disclosure.

If that person has convictions and poses a risk of causing serious harm to the child or children, police may then disclose that information confidentially.

The force says it's another way to try and safeguard children.
