MP calls for hospitals to save more money

A Plymouth MP says hospitals need to look at how they save money in future.

Derriford announced last month that 281 posts are to go - bosses are currently in the middle of a consultation with unions.

The Plymouth hospitals NHS Trust has to save £31 million over the next year.

Plymouth Sutton and Devonport MP Oliver Colvile met with Derriford bosses recently and says the trust's financial problems weren't just caused by spending cuts or the recession. He says he isn't criticising Derriford specifically, but thinks hospitals need to re-evaluate the way they manage their finances.
