More than 1200 properties and businesses on the Hoe and Barbican were without power for a time tonight.

A cable fault caused an underground explosion, which lifted a manhole cover on Notte Street.

Police cordoned off the street so that Western Power could fix the problem.

All properties do now have power again, although the faulty cable needs to be replaced.

Police say the public are not in any danger.
