Marines died helping 'secure stability of Afghanistan'

The deaths of two Plymouth-based marines will help secure the future stability of Afghanistan, according to Task Force Helmand.

Sam Alexander and Ollie Augustin from 42 Commando were killed in a blast in Helmand Province on Friday.

The two were taking part in Operation OMID HAFT. They were fighting alongside members of the Afghan National Army for several days when the explosion happened. It was in a region where officials claimed insurgents had threatened the local population for many years.

The commander, Brigadier Ed Davis, is saluting the professionalism and unfailing bravery of everyone involved and particulary mentions those who sacrificed their lives.
