Marine killed in Afghanistan to be flown home

The body of a Plymouth-based royal marine killed in Afghanistan is due to be flown home today.

Marine James Wright, from Weymouth, was killed after his check point in the Nad-e Ali district of Helmand Province came under attack on Friday.

The 22 year old was wounded by a grenade - he was taken to hospital but died from his wounds.

He's the fifth member of 42 Commando to be killed in action.

Marine Wright leaves his long term partner Shelley and their unborn child - his family say he was looking forward to becoming a father.

They say he touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Marine Wright's commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ewan Murchison says his death will leave a 'massive void' in the lives of those who knew him.
