Local historian shares controversial research about Blitz

A local historian will challenge traditional recollections of wartime Plymouth at a conference.

The event at the university of Plymouth, marks the 70th anniversary of the Blitz.

Dr Todd Gray says many remember that period for the notion of 'Blitz spirit' but Plymouth, as well as many other cities and towns, was hit by looting in the aftermath of the war.

His research shows people looted things from chocolate, alcohol or cigarettes to tools and cars.

Over 50 people were arrested in and around Plymouth - but police say for every looter they caught, 200 others were getting away with it.

The event runs from 9:30am- 4:30pm at the Sherwell Centre on the university's main campus.
