Laira Rail bridge could be restored

A bid for funding to restore the Laira rail bridge is to be submitted to the government next month.

The scheme to create a bridge for walkers and cyclists would cost more than six million pounds, but Whitehall is only likely to supply up to five million.

The rest would come from earmarked city council funds and from the potential developers at Plymstock Quarry.

The city council says it's not a waste of money because the government funding could not be used for anything else.

It would create a continuous cycle route from Stonehouse to Plymstock
