Hundreds to welcome crew of Devonport ship home

More than 600 people are likely to be lining the dockside at Devonport today to welcome home HMS Somerset.

The type 23 frigate has been on a six month deployment to the Middle East - their work was largely focused around counter piracy operations, but they also trained with the Saudi border security unit.

In October, the crew were instrumental in rescuing a group of Pakistani fishermen 100 miles off the Somali coast after their vessel was intercepted by pirates.

Commander Paul Bristowe believes they are winning the war against piracy slowly but surely. He says in 2010, there were between 15 or 20 piracy vessels at anchor but they're now down into single figures.
